Met office: Yellow warning of thunderstorm affecting South West England
Thornbury Town Council are responding to the announcement of the incoming parking charges by South Gloucestershire Council (SGC).
The Town Council will be looking into the feasibility of challenging this, with the intention of identifying if improvements can be made to relieve some of the difficulties this brings to the community.
The Town Council will be arranging an opportunity for the community to voice their opinions with more details to follow.
The Thornbury Orchard Group have entered the AWT Wildlife Gardening Competition, and are appealing for your votes. Voting is now open until 15th October.

Thornbury Active Lifestyle Centre’s swimming pool is closing for nearly two months from Nov 4th 2024 for a £650,000 maintenance and environmental improvement programme to take place.
The pool is also well known in Thornbury for its multi-coloured circular pods that hang from the ceiling – known locally as ‘The Smarties’. These will be undergoing a respray, having not had their colour updated since their installation in 1978. Click below to read more...

Would you like to join the Thornbury Orchard Group? They've just been short listed for an Avon Wildlife Trust award which will shortly go to a public vote.
The group always need new volunteers, and more so than ever at present. They want to attract local people so there's no need for long travel and it's a chance to take pride in your neighbourhood.
On a cold but sunny 11 September Thornbury Volunteer Centre hosted its annual Volunteer Fair in the St. Mary Centre. 10 local charitable and community groups had stalls in the Centre with the aim of recruiting volunteers, promoting their organisations and in most cases raising funds. Thornbury Radio played throughout the morning and Town Mayor Cllr. James Murray visited and spoke to all the stallholders.
It was a very social and successful morning which attracted many visitors, resulting in over £130 being raised and at least 33 potential volunteers coming forward, with many more people taking away information.
Our thanks to the St. Mary Centre Management team and South Glos Council for their support of this event.

Thornbury and District League of Friends has now celebrated THREE very successful years of community grant awards and support. Since the closure of Thornbury Hospital at the end of 2018 we have also continued to support the Outpatients in St Mary Centre.
This year’s grant-giving programme encourages local organisations to apply for a grant towards any health-related project supporting our charitable aims for which they might need our financial assistance. We welcome your interest and will consider all requests carefully.

Heidelberg Materials has launched the sixth round of its biodiversity and research competition. The Quarry Life Award has a total prize fund of around £250,000 and is now open for project submissions based at Tytherington Quarry.
The international competition is run every three years to inspire biodiversity and restoration projects at extraction sites.
Thornbury Running Club's introductory course for new runners is open for people to register. It starts on Wednesday 16th October for 9 weeks and we aim to run together at a parkrun on Saturday 14th December to celebrate your success.
